Emerging markets recommended to investors

Property investment abroad: 29 May 2008

Overseas property buyers have been urged to consider possible investment opportunities outside Europe.

According to Principal International, established markets such as Spain are now mainly lifestyle destinations which do not necessarily offer the best value for money.

As a result, the organisation has recommended that investors look further afield, as many long-haul locations are experiencing considerable growth.

Simon Ryeland, director of Principal International, said this strategy could be far more profitable than investing in Europe.

He commented: "Over the last few years many emerging overseas markets have experienced strong rental yields and capital growth."

Mr Ryeland highlighted Central America as one region for investors to consider, along with the Caribbean.

This comes after Amberlamb director Rhiannon Davies recommended that investors who are looking at emerging markets consider a number of important issues.

Prospective buyers were encouraged to look beyond affordable property values and think about factors such as the level of growth, demand, quality and risk.
