Self-catering holiday homes: Andorra
Make a holiday rental villa or apartment in Andorra your home away from home
Andorra is a tiny, mountainous principality hidden between Spain and France. Located in the eastern Pyrenees, Andorra is a stunning country of soaring peaks and narrow valleys. When you visit Andorra, the relaxed lifestyles, charmingly picturesque villas and Romanesque churches that adorn the scenery cannot fail to endear, but it is skiing holiday in Andorra that really draw the crowds to Andorra accommodation. Andorra is one of the oldest nations in Europe, yet is one of the most naturally spectacular and most unspoilt nations at the same time.
Things to do on holiday to Andorra
Skiing holidays in Andorra are exceedingly good value for money, offering excellent skiing for intermediate and beginners as well as the cheapest accommodation in Western Europe. The four ski resorts in Andorra, Arinsal & Pal, Pas de la Casa, La Massana and Soldeu & El Tarter, all have different characters, but all have fantastic facilities for learners, lively après ski and top class restaurants to choose from. There is also some excellent off-piste to conquer if you are a more advanced skier on a skiing holiday in Andorra accommodation.
Many people visit Andorra villas for the superb shopping. Tourism in Andorra benefits greatly from the duty free shopping across the country, with very smart boutiques selling everything from fashion garments to electrical goods, alcohol to gastronomic delicacies at amazingly low prices.
Walking holidays to Andorra are nothing short of spectacular. The best place to take an Andorra villa for walking holidays is Arinsal, but wherever you take Andorra accommodation, you are never far from the many trails leading up into the mountains. Walks up the highest peak in Andorra, Coma Pedrosa, are magnificent during the sunny summer months.
Places to visit on holiday to Andorra
La Massana is one of the most popular ski resorts for learner skiers. Andorra apartments in La Massana are a perfect base for exploring the rest of the country too, based in the bottom of a large valley on the main road, and ideal for exploration of the slopes of neighbouring resorts of Arinsal and Arcalis. The nightlife is extremely cheap due to the countries duty free shopping, and young people flock to Andorra apartments in the area during the ski season.
The capital, Andorra la Vella is a wonderful town to visit. It is both the centre of commerce in Andorra, and if you take an apartment in Andorra la Vella, you can spend may hours touring the excellent museums and restaurants.
Weather in Andorra
Skiing holidays in Andorra can be taken from mid-December until long into April. Snow is usually good, but if you travel to Andorra and the snowfall is not good, all four ski resorts have good artificial snow making facilities. When the snows melt, usually by the end of June, walking and hiking holidays to Andorra start to thrive, with average monthly temperatures become surprisingly warm, usually remaining above 26˚C from July until September.
Cheap flights to Andorra
Travel to Andorra requires a little effort. There are no flights to Andorra due to the pocket sized countries lack of an airport. To visit an Andorra apartment, you must drive from either France or Spain, whose nearest airports are Toulouse (TLS) and Barcelona (BCN) respectively. If you travel to Andorra via France, your drive will take you through the hugely impressive Port d’Envalira, the highest pass in the Pyrenees. The Eurostar is an excellent option, taking you to Paris, where you can get a connecting train to Andorra.
